Sable & Argent – Closer look
Welcome to Sydney's latest caterer to the two-wheeled enthusiast, specifically those of a scooter and pedal powered inclination, Sable & Argent. Dropped in there this arvo after finding out about it through Le Pista Resistance, it was, apparently, the first stop on their Coffee Crawl ride (unattended, unfortunately, the Lady Cop is off the road due to a tequila induced incident and I was having too much fun riding around on a motorcycle...). I remember thinking, 'great, another euro or yankee shop catering to the discerning cyclist, well designed with great attention to detail that I'll never get to hang out in on a regular basis apart from Deus Ex Machina' until I saw the address: 74 Bourke St WOOLLOOMOOLLOO! Hey, um, that's in Sydney..!
So imagine the smile inside my mind when I walked in and spied a gorgeous Cinelli Vigorelli with B-43s and a Paul crankset mingling with a vintage Vespa, Biomegas, Spring Court shoes, a bookshelf full of design books and an espresso machine! Heaven! Well, almost.
That was the bicycle half (not mentioning the saddles by Busyman Bicycles, the workshop dressed up like a surgery room from House... I didn't actually venture over to the scooter half (there was a being on one of my shoulders screaming, 'scooters??? NOOOOOOO!!!'
Beside the fact that this is a Mecca for all Eastern Suburbs two wheeled types looking for a brunch surrounded by the most delectable eye candy, this is also a very capable workshop for all bicycle and scooter repairs, custom builds and the latest in bicycle fashion and couture.
What impressed me the most about Sable & Argent is their tagline, 'Anyone on two wheels is a friend'. A philosophy about which, especially in Sydney, we need to be constantly vigilant, and enjoy the comraderie which this will bring about. Sydney, where two wheeled riders, both motorised and pedalised, are a minority and need to band together for strength.
Looking forward to seeing what the breakfasts are like. Here's the blog. The address is above. The phone numbers and hours are (02) 9357 4699. Mon - Fri: 8am-7pm, Sat: 8am-4pm and Sun: Closed.
