And I never know when I come around what I'm gonna find
True to form, Carby Tuckwell (creative director of Deus Ex Machina) captured the spirit of the 5th Bicycle Swap Meet. Head over to the Deus website and have a look through the galleries, pick yourself up a bargain! Smokin' Joe scored some mad Cippolini Brikos...

I know Bob well well enough to tell you 'bout his 67 smells
Another grey old day in Sydney, one of the boys has deemed it necessary to rock the wet weather bike. Possible the most appropriate head badge for a day like today... Stay upright out there!

Funky boss, get off my back
Wow! What a beast! This is almost everything I love about 26". Short, fat and solid. It's funny, when I was riding as a courier in Sydney back in the day, it wasn't about who was riding fixed, it was about who had the hottest MTB set up to ride street, and now the fixed scene is coming around to that same aesthetic. This is the Nemesis/Gnarcotix Trackfighter build, and it looks the bollocks. So does his 20" ride, below. Seen on Benjamin Taylor's Tumblr and PC!

Everybody keeps on talking about it, nobody's getting it done
Lord knows I've always had a thing for slender Italians, so it's no surprise that I experienced a slight tension and tingle when Fyxomatosis Andy posted these pics as a teaser of the red Pinarello he and Dan from Shifterbikes have recently built up to their usual high level of quality. Head over to Fyx TV and scope it out, well worth it. And if that got your blood and desire levels up, Pony Bikes has a blue Pinny in immaculate condition built up as a single speed which is up for sale at the amazing price of AU$800. If you're in Melbourne, drop into Sasha's shop at 87 Capel Street or check out the other photos on her blog! Someone make it your own before my guilty hand drops down my wallet...
Gotta break it loose, gonna keep 'em movin' wild
One of Sydney's longest serving and stylish bike messengers, Brettsky, with his rarely-ridden Team Renault time trials bike. 25 years and still going strong. Word. Photo courtesy of Yogi!

Kicking ass in the class and they tell me you're a damn disgrace
Saw Yogi at Martin Place, in his KyotoLoco outfit. It's a real pity about that Skidstar frame but I much prefer this setup. What frame is it Yogi? Don't say it's the F. Moser!!!

How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
It is pissing down in Sydney today. Still, spare a thought for the bike couriers out there, wet through, risking life and limb battling traffic to deliver your goods on time and intact. Getting cold out there, too. To all the couriers Down Under, you are all legends, and my heroes. Keep going. Pete is a legend too. He was a long time courier when I started, and he still rides occasionally. But every day, he's blowing his bugle to the denizens of Martin Place. Thanks Pete, for putting a little bit of music in everyone's day.

Crack that whip, give the past the slip
Jarra's whip outside 88 Cumberland this morning. Pretty much filled out his Skin Grows Back bag with that single pick-up, it's got some serious portage ability!

Rock and Roller cola wars, I can't take it anymore
Motoyan is one of my favourite photographers and I greatly look forward to his posts as they are a valuable and inexhaustive insight into Tokyo biker culture. Have a look at his blog No Future Tokyo! Never mind the only slightly effective D-lock technique on this Puch Murray cruiser, what an immaculate example of a rare and obscure marque. Check out the thruster style dropouts, a feature of the brand's frames. Thanks Motoyan!

Well the hills are pretty and rollin', but the thorn is sharp and swollen
Last night was the Super Mario Track alleycat, presented by Le Pista Resistance. These rides are just going from strength to strength, it's so encouraging to see so many riders turning up, last night there was about 70 Sydney cyclists. I'm sure there would be more if there wasn't such a stupid prejudice about these rides being fixed only. One fact I am continually becoming aware of is that Sydney is not a cycling friendly city. Try riding it, you'll find out. So it's important to encourage the community and not be biased against about what you're riding or what other people are riding. To quote Sable & Argent, 'Anyone on two wheels is a friend'. Come along to the next one, leave your hate at home and just have a fun night with people who love to ride!
Thanks to Lewis and the LPR crew for organising, the sponsors, the checkpoints, the Cricketers Arms, Jewelz for taking the snaps and above all the riders for coming along.
Get over to the Le Pista Resistance BLOG for Emma's excellent review of the night, too.
