Across the north and south, to Key Largo, love for sale
Caught up with fellow Cannonball Runner Messrs Stefan Wig the Deus Ex Machina Swap Meet, and we had a brief chat about my upcoming incursion into the surf and the state of the counter culture. As it turns out, he is a card holding member of the Gentleman's Surf Club. As the editor of The Sugarmill so eloquently puts it, this is NOT about doing sit down wees. Find out for yourself what it's really about...

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, people, I've been staying up all night watching the Tour... Well done Cadel!

When they reach their teens, that's when they all get mean
Well done to everyone involved with the 2010 edition of the Melbourne Roubaix, and especially Andy from Fyxomatosis for creating this magical Melburn Hardcore long sleeve jersey to celebrate the event. Head over to the Fyx Store and get yours before they all disappear, if they haven't already... Otherwise you'll be really sad and have to wait for next year. Wow!

I know you like what you see, hold me, I'll give that you need
How we roll in The Shire: Salba and Gator in the window my local skate shop. Seriously got my eye on the Salba, it was the Holy Grail back then... Ford 351-GT, Berkelouw Books just opened, very exciting! Pretty good range of antique books as well. Cronulla lifesaver keeping an eagle eye on the surf. Rad old GSXR in the Mall, and check out dad and daughter in the background of the bottom pic. Can't wait for the weekend!

Connect to the sky, future lovers ride their ambitions high
Brother-from-another-mother TwoOne had his opening in Melbourne last night, and it was a big success. Wish I could make it along, if you're in Melbourne head along to Gorker Gallery in Fitzroy and have a look for me! Images blatantly ripped off the awesome Club Mumble blog...

When you got lost into the city, got lost into the night
The Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, continues to bring Sydney into the 21st Century by updating the infrastructure for cycling, and it's a wonderful thing. Here's the latest progress, improving the entry into Hyde Park from Oxford Street. To put it into perspective, you come bombing down Oxford, catch the right turn lights at Liverpool and whereas before you would get caught in a bottleneck of pedestrian crawling up the stairs, now we have a massive ramp. Awesome! Thanks Clover!

Tommy's got his six string in hock, now he's holding in what he used
My mate Dan's mate Fresh is looking good with his new label ASHCAN, loving this tee design, one of the punchiest bicycle oriented designs I've seen for a while, without actually featuring a bicycle. Very clever! Putting my order in... Thanks Dan!

Gotta make some connection with God, it's easy folks
Wow! Track Cvnt looks like he had a helluva road trip, check out the latest 260kms and his usual beautiful photography on his flickr slideshow, and on Fyxomatosis!

My mate Dan from Flailings spotted this Volvo 240GL while the Tour Down Under cruised around his hometown, complete with Merckx plates. Seeing as how I grew up in this model it holds a particular sentimentality. And seeing it decked out as a support vehicle is just perfect, what a great, nerdy car. Thanks Dan!

Let me hear your body talk
Seeing as how it's Australia Day tomorrow, it's officially Australian Music Monday in the Studio. We're up to 'Let's Get Physical' by Olivia Newton-John. Why don't you hold your own Australian Music Monday? We've had a laugh!

When the emptiness finds you, you find all the numbers you need
Met up with my mate Sticks tonight for a couple of beers at The Clarendon on Devonshire St. He rocked up with his old Azonic DS1. What a legend of a bike, 10 years old and still looking as phat as it ever did. This bike has won State downhill champs and is now running 25:12, still going strong! Word!
I don't expect to be treated like a fool no more
Ben Quilty is up there as one of my favourite artists, and not only because he does incredible paintings of wrecked cars. He puts it up the art world cognoscenti a bit.

Wasting my life at the traffic lights, getting nowhere
Headed over to Deus ex Machina yesterday for the 4th Bicycle Swap Meet and once again it was a fantastic day. Loads of people all day and heaps of interesting parts and frames... Some nice Colnagos, the odd Frejus, vintage frames and old shitters that begged for a bit of love. It was great seeing the Three Point Turnz there as well!
What was ultimately exciting for me, however, was the overall impression that Sydney's bike community is not only alive and well, but thriving. Riding over there, through Surry Hills and Newtown, I saw more bikes and riders than ever before. Now, it could just be that it's summer and perfect riding weather (albeit a little hot) but I felt that this season will carry everyone's enthusiasm for riding and commuting through to the next year. Newtown actually started to resemble Fitzroy with bikes locked up outside front yards and terrace balconies, numerous bikes locked up outside pubs and shops, and a wide array of humanity riding bikes under the impression that they are a feasible mode of transport. Which of course, they are...
Way to go, Sydney! Thanks Deus for another great day, and Stefan and Piero for organising the roller races!
